Feed the Birds Day

by TJMum @ 2007-10-22 - 19:34:53

On Saturday 27th October the RSPB are asking everyone across the country to feed the birds. If you don't already help out our feathered friends why not get a bird feeder and give them a head start in the oncoming winter. If you already help why not put up another one. Even if you live in a place without a garden you can get window feeders which stick directly to your window offering you a great view of the birds feeding.

For more information and great tips on what and how to feed the birds in your area visit www.rspb.co.uk and do your bit to help save our threatened garden birds.

What a good idea. I don't have a garden but do have an allotment where I'm going to put bird feeders up in the next week or so.

I've noticed an influx of blue tits, great tits, chaffinch, robins, wrens, blackbirds, greenfinches and even a woodpecker since I put up my feeders last year. as the weather is getting increasingly colder it is so important to make sure they have a regular food supply and fresh water. Anything you can do is really worthwhile.

Great!

It most be wonderful to see all those! I'm told that there are all sorts to be seen at the allotment site but all I've seen so far are magpies and a robin.
As well as food for them, I'm going to have a wildlfe area with a small pond.

In my old house I made a small pond out of an old sink! You have to supply food for the birds you have in your area - no good leaving out food for grouse if you live in Southern England! It is amazing how quickly they will find you, and I even have cats and it doesn't put them off. The feeders are placed high enough for the birds to be out of reach when feeding. I'm trying to get my husband to build me a couple of stands for the table feeders. Autumn is great for seeing the birds especially the migrating ones - swallows, swifts and martins giving way to pink footed geese, redstarts and partridge. What a glourious country this is!

Thanks for accepting my invite!
My pond will be be an old green coloured washing up bowl! Here in Harrow, north-west London I don't think that I'll be seeing much in the way of migrating birds but I'll keep an eye out.
It is indeed a wonderful country.
