A Big Thank You

by TJMum @ 2008-04-25 - 19:31:25

I would like to say a big thank you. Firstly for those lovely men at Grangemouth that are going to strike this weekend. If you haven't heard it is a refinery in Scotland and it means that we will have a fuel shortage for possibly the next four weeks.

I would like to say thank you too to BP who are going to shut off a main line in that will affect gas and oil coming into the country, which will begin to cause panic down south too.

And my final big thank you is to the idiots who have started panic buying fuel (filling up gerry cans, topping up their cars every five minutes) so that now we DO have a fuel shortage in Scotland, even though we were told by just about every expert that if people were sensible there would be adequate fuel for everyone.

So why the Thank Yous? Two reasons. Firstly I have a little boy who has a health problem. If he needs hospital treatment there will now be difficulty for us to get to the hospital (it's over 30 miles away) or for the Ambulances to get to us as there is a fuel shortage. And secondly we are moving in three weeks time: for my son's benefit we are relocating back to the South coast, but how are we supposed to do that when there is little enough fuel for us to travel, let alone a funiture lorry.

So thank you to all those selfish people who are thinking purely of their own benefit and not of the rest of the country. Thank you for the inconveience, the extra worry and stress that this strike will bring.

They never think about anyone but themselves whatever they might say! It's always ordinary decent people who suffer. One way and another they're all at fault, including the government. Let's hope that it gets resolved quickly so that it doesn't escalate or drag on.
I'm sorry to hear that it may well affect your move so little wonder that you feel as you do.
Take care. xx

I wouldn't mind but listening to the company that owns the site they have basically taken back everything they wanted to change except the pensiond for new employees. Surely it is a company's right to change working practices for employees that may start in the future. It is a totally unneccessary strike; it benefits no-one and everyone involved is just thinking of themselves. I know there are so many people that are being affected by this; farmers who can't get fuel for their machines, public transport, lorry drivers and even us ordinary human beings. I should think there is very little sympathy for this strike.

i think people should for once think about not using their cars unless necessary, its so easy to get hooked and I have friends who wont walk or take public transport which makes me mad.

Hope the move goes ok, more stress at a stressful time not good. Where abouts on South coast you gonna be?

The Isle of Wight, where we're from. I would love to be able to use the public transport butit only runs 4 times a day from here to the nreaest town. If you need to get to the hospital (Aberdeen) you have to make sure you are ill only on a Wednesday at 10.20! I don't drive (couldn't face the roads in Portsmouth) and am really feeling it if I need to get to any toddler groups or clubs. Even the school is a mile away. We don't use thecar for short journey, but it is necessary for us to use it if we need food. Withfour of us in the car at a time it is more cost efficient than publi transport anyway. Still, hopefully when we're back to a bit of civilisation we wont need to use the car much at all!

sounds like a logistical nightmare. Good luck,
i can't imagine living somewhere with so little transport, I don't drive so like being able to get places by foot and failing that by train or bus.
