There has been a large amount media exposure of the subject of bee demise. It ranks quite high, along with crops failures, re-designing the use for food crops into fuel use and the unintended consequences of that policy, which is equally as destructive and equally as concerning.

In response to:What is happening to our bees?

I've read about this in recent months. Experts say that some of the contributors to the bee problem (viruses and parasites) have not yet come over from the continent due to our climate BUT that in the next few years as our climate starts to change we too will see them appear. And it is not just honey that bee are important for. They pollinate the crops that we depend on, both for ourselves and for our animals. If we destroy the bees then we are removing a major part of the food chain and it could be extremely damaging to us and the world.

In response to:What is happening to our bees?

I have followed this global concern about bee diseases and the loss of colonies; the economic impact it will have if bees are not around to function.

There are bee keepers where I live who sell their honey, not on a large scale. There has been a little local worry but I haven't heard anything further. I wait to see if the honey stock will appear again this year.

When I was down in Fife, a local pub was selling a local honey, nicely packaged. I wonder if, in these isles there is less likelihood of a major problem or is that we are using a different strain of bees to those about which this discussion is taking place.

In response to:A Big Thank You

sounds like a logistical nightmare. I would love to be able to use the public transport butit only runs 4 times a day from here to the nreaest town. If you need to get to the hospital (Aberdeen) you have to make sure you are ill only on a Wednesday at 10.20! I don't drive (couldn't face the roads in Portsmouth) and am really feeling it if I need to get to any toddler groups or clubs. Even the school is a mile away. We don't use thecar for short journey, but it is necessary for us to use it if we need food. Withfour of us in the car at a time it is more cost efficient than publi transport anyway.
We your friends can only sympathise from a distance, not a real help, but believe me, we do care. I hope that even the act of getting the words down in your post will make things a little easier, I find that it does.

Big hug, take care of your self.

In response to:Horrible, horrible year

I'm really sorry to see that you're having such an awful time at present. It happens, and when it does it all seems to do so at the same time or with one thing after another. I'm sure that it will change and improve soon. Clearly the continuing bad weather hasn't helped and when that ends, as it will, then that will undoubtedly help.
There's no need to be sorry for having a moan here as you've every right to...I know that I would! I'm also not surprised that you're feeling down and fed up.
I can but sympathise as I know what it's like to go through a period like this. Take care xx

In response to:Pancakes!

Well I'm trying!
